Why Nokia E63? Typing made easier with predictive text

As we go through the "honeymoon phase" of having a new phone, we'll do a couple of posts about features on the Nokia E63 that put a smile on our face. Suggestions for posting topics can be made in the comments, anonymously or otherwise.
I don't know about you but even with a QWERTY keyboard, I still have apprehensions with having to type antidisestablishmentarianism on the Nokia E63. Today while playing with the phone, I suddenly (re)discovered the predictive text feature.

In notes, Create SMS, email or whatever, press the left selection key and go to Input Options --> Predictive text --> On. As you type a word, the phone will try to guess what you are trying to type. To accept the suggestion, just press spacebar. If not, keep typing and the phone will continue to try guess the rest of your word. It's quite nifty, especially if the phone is learning words as you go along. Does it? not sure. Anyway.. try out this feature and next time you need to use a 21 character word, you'll smile to yourself as you save heaps of time

  1. gday

I just noticed something about my E63 keypad last night. For some reason I can't type the equal symbol "=" with the "o" key. The only way I could do it is by going into the character selection option. Anyone else having the same problem? or is my phone stuffed already?

  8. I helped a friend with this today as she apparently had the same problem.
SOLUTION = Home/Tools/Settings/General/Personalisation/ Language and Predictive Text on/off is the third option down.

  9. To gain access to the predictive txt in the message area you must be in the message space not the contact area.

  14. If it's just giving you 'writing language' as an input option, make sure your typing bar thingy is in the actual text message, not the contact part (who to send the msg to) ie. click down & try again and the above screenshot with the predictive text option will come up :)

  16. predictive text is helpful that's for sure, but when you're searching in google, it restricts you being able to move down to hit the search button. So you need to toggle in and out of it.

thus I normally leave it off

  17. Predictive text on the E63 is perhaps the pinnical of development on any phone. Awsome that it allows switching in and out of it so eaily with simply pressing Ctrl then pressing spacebar (one after the other so you can do it with one hand too)

    long live the king
