Nokia E63 Address Book slowing down?

We've talked in the past about how the Nokia E63 is a much faster phone than the Nokia E65 but recently I have found the address book to be quite slow to open up individual entries. I am not sure whether anyone out there is able to shed some light on this but I am wondering if it is only caused by an increased number of contacts in the address book. I have 515 contacts in the phone using 108kB.

The lag occurs when you open up an individual entry to reveal their mobile phone. This happens often when I need to pass a contact to someone else. I just tried opening up a contact and it took 17 seconds to open it! Granted, after that, every entry I tried, opened up immediately. I cannot work out why this is the case so over to you...

  1. If it were my phone, I'd backup all my contacts (by syncing them with a computer and/or using Nokia's backup function in PC suite, then delete all the contacts from the phone (I'm not sure how easy that is to do... it may be impractical) and then re-sync your contacts.

I hypothesise 2 possible causes for your promble. 1) it is a defficenency of the software, i.e. it just cant handle that many contacts or 2) your memory card or phone memory is fragmented.

The second hypothetical problem might be solved by the suggested backup/restore procedure.

  2. Deleting the Inbox SMS did the trick for me.

  4. 17 Seconds is too long , I have > 800 contacts on my E63 and response time is around 1 second to see a number

  5. I have less than 100 contacts but occasionally it it takes more than 1 minute. I usually have to take out the battery to regain control.

  6. I have latest firmware 500.21.009, my Phonebook has 546 contacts, 17 groups and 229KB. It's lagging only when it isn't running in background - its start could take approx. 2s, but when it is running already, every operation with it is instantaneous. I am impressed with Phonebook speed.

  7. Just install Youlu Address Book. It makes original address book much faster, and you can still access it with the original button.

  8. My phone was really slow to load contacts as well. I didnt have that many messages, but I realised it saves all my sent messages too, I deleted all the sent messages and it went back to being speedy like it should :)
